Sarafai — clothes in which the heroes of Russian fairy tales could walk around their homes today everyday affairs. Costumes from parallel reality — like fairy tales, they have historical roots and elements, but do not pretend to be ethnographically authentic and live organically in modern life. Over the course of its long history, our people have created a culture of covering a person with clothing, taking into account the climate, Orthodox ethics and the concept of beauty. A considerable part of this heritage was eradicated by the reforms of Peter I, and we don’t know much about the vestments of the noble class in the pre-Petrine era, because there are no material samples left. This gives a lot of room for inspiration and interpretation.
